Our vacation life is all about balance. I am the adventurer and sometimes forget who nice it is just to relax and have a lazy vacation. The Maldives did a wonderful job reminding me of what I'm missing! Since we did a lot of the same things I decided to blog the favorite five memories.
1. ARRIVAL/SEEING OUR ROOM
After an extremely short boat ride we arrived to Kurumba Resort, we were greeted by friendly staff and some delicious coconut ice cream. Since it was only 8am our room wasn't quite available, Trey and I were dead on our feet and of course maddy was wide awake. She headed off to kids club happily and we went to their rest room that was super comfy, dark and cold perfect for sleeping.
Once it was time to checkin to our room I headed over letting Maddy and Trey sleep a bit longer. Our room was amazing view of the ocean although it's technically a "garden view" room. The guy who brought our bags made me a Mimosia while I explored the room. Walking into the bathroom I thought I had died and gone to heaven: a full bath, outdoor shower and indoor shower. Life really doesn't get much better than that!
All snorkeling equipment was included so on the second afternoon we kept Maddy out of kids club and took her snorkeling for the first time. The way the beach is designed with rock wall wave breakers we could let her roam a bit without worrying about her getting carried away. She was such a pro and really loved it. We took her out a total of four times in the week. We saw 3-5 foot reef sharks, stingrays, beautiful coral beds, hundreds of different fish and eels.
3. SPA DAY
The spa was beautiful and thanks to Maddy loving all the kids club activities we were able to spend a whole afternoon getting pampered together. We haven't gotten a couple's massage since our honeymoon so it was much overdo! The spa is set up nicely and the therapist were wonderful, we both did a hot sand treatment (an ode to Saudi of course). Trey liked it so much that he went back for a second massage the morning we left!
4. BALANCED DAYS
We were really looking for a resort that we could feel like adults while still being able to enjoy our family time. We hit the jackpot with Kurumba in that regard, it felt like an adult resort that appreciated kids vs just a kids resort or an adult resort that tolerates kids. Maddy loved the active kids club and we got to enjoy some couple time. We participated in a couple activities like painting and drink making that we couldn't have done with her. She got the chance to bake a pizza, feed fish, learn to snorkel and make tons of crafts. Then some days and all evenings we got to bond as a family, walk on the beach, play in the sand and just relax. Perfect balance for us.
5. FAREWELL SURPRISE BOAT RIDE
After checking out and heading to the boat we were surprised by the captain remembering Maddy and letting her drive the boat back to the airport. It was the highlight of her trip and possibly her life so far! This was the perfect example of how wonderful the staff was with Maddy. Everyone fell into her charismatic charm and did tons of little extras to make her trip extra special. From making her chocolate milk at our breakfast table to taking her to the best pier for shark watching and giving her teddy bear a bandaid when he fell. The staff made her trip for sure!
